We are a true full-service Catskills-style fly shop, with a focus of keeping the angling tradition alive and well here in Califon, NJ!
Shannon's Fly and Tackle was originally opened by Les Shannon in 1973. Les Shannon's mission as an angler and nationally acclaimed fly tier (having been featured in the NY Times!) was to serve his customers with the best knowledge, flies, tying materials, and products possible. A lifelong practitioner of catch and release fly fishing, entomology, and conservation, Les Shannon forged an ethic and approach that we faithfully carry into the future of fly fishing. Jim Holland, along with George Cassa and Eric Hildebrandt, the second generation of ownership of Shannon's, continued the tradition of conservation, championing our streams, rivers, and fish. Their advocacy was a major factor in the revitalization of the wild brown and native brook trout throughout our watersheds.
Abraham and Lindsey are proud to continue the tradition established by those that came before and look forward to providing the best possible service for our anglers, as well as ensuring the rivers and the creatures that call it home thrive for the next generation to enjoy as well.
South Branch Outfitters is a family owned small business. Lindsey and Abraham are also both Navy veterans, still serving in the Reserves. Their two girls, Amelia and Lillian are frequent visitors in the shop and often help check out customers.
With nearly 30 years of combined military service, we recognized when we left active duty in 2020 that service is a fundamental part of who we are. That is why we are so passionate about our shop's core mission of providing service to the angling community.
