Week of October 5th: Hope on the Horizon
Hope is on the horizon. There could be some rain this week! Fall stocking begins on Tuesday, October 15 and continues for two weeks. Some folks are wondering if, with flows so low, they stocking will commence. As far as I have heard, it will. The hatchery has to make room for the next generation of fish and so the ones who are ready will go in. The numbers of fish and date of stocking is available on the NJDEP website.
I have still been poking around Hunterdon county and specifically the SBR below Clinton. There seems to be more water below the reservoir than above it and I was hopeful I could find some bass and panfish to fill the gap of time before trout are returned. There was not much to see; I guess I’ll continue to wait.
Looking ahead, the shop is planning to get busy with fly tying starting next month, including beginner “101” classes on weekend mornings in November and a regular tying night, weekly, on Thursday evenings. These are in addition to meetings of the New Jersey Fly Tying Guild, which frequently meets on the last Wednesday of each month at the shop and will do so with regularity also beginning in November.
Don’t let the drought get you down! Brush up on casting in the park or yard and get your gear ready. Fall fishing, with fish included, is nearly here!
See you out there, Roy B.
