Week of December 14th 2025: Snow Day

The first significant snow looked delightful and I went out for two hours after digging out. It was so cold this week that these were the only two hours I fished. It was a beautiful day. Surprised to see two trucks already at the Musky TCA, I tried to hustle for a good spot. Walking in the snow slowed me down real quick. Those two trucks must have been snug as the “good spots” were full. I didn’t speak with them as I was now conserving breath for a walk further upstream. One of them caught a nice fish.
There is a significant swing in temperature coming up. Snow is going to melt and flows will rise. The shift in degrees and added water are something to plan for. Pheasant tail, hare’s ear, Walt’s worm, zebra midge, buggers and zonkers traditionally do well to match what fish are looking for. Blow torch and other Euronymphs are good choices, too.
See you out there,
Roy B.
